Ceramic details
These pieces are crafted from 景德镇 高白瓷 – the mother of all porcelains originating from Jingdezhen.

Porcelain clay is first used to fashion the plates by hand to create organic movement, followed by hand painting the illustration design on each plate, and finally finished with high firing (cone 10) that allows for the unique vitrification* of porcelain.

*at high-firing, porcelain fuses into a non-porous, glass-like matrix with almost no water absorption (i.e. body becomes waterproof, thereby safe for food use and will probably outlive you! >.<)

Fun fact: swei had fun creating textures in the straw hat 👒 and tea leaves 🌱 using hand carving, a technique she discovered her love for during her time in pottery school in 景德镇.
